Atmore Community Hospital will officially change its management from Baptist Health Care to Infirmary Health on Monday.

The Escambia County Healthcare Authority announced in August 2014, that ACH would end its nearly-20-year management relationship with Baptist Health Care of Pensacola, Fla. The ECHA instead chose for Infirmary Health, of Mobile, to manage ACH.

On Tuesday afternoon, ACH Administrator Bill Perkins told members of the Atmore Rotary Club that the transition has been moving smoothly.

“It’s been a little nerve-racking because every system in the hospital is going to be changing over,” Perkins said. “That’s everything from financial systems to registration systems … we’ve got new equipment. We’re on track; we’ve had great support from Infirmary Health.”

Perkins said that Infirmary Health personnel will visit Atmore on Sunday to set up a “command center” in the conference room to help assist with the actual transition Monday.

“We’ve had extensive training going on for the last several months,” he said. “I don’t think you’re ever totally ready for something like this, but we’re as ready as we’re going to be.”

Infirmary Health is the largest non-governmental, not-for-profit healthcare system in Alabama. It is presently composed of acute-care hospitals, three rehabilitation hospitals, three outpatient facilities and 22 medical clinics.

Infirmary Health serves an 11-county area along the Gulf Coast and treats more than 800,000 patients annually.
