4-year-old hit by drunk driver

A 4-year-old girl is in the hospital after being hit by an intoxicated driver earlier this evening, according to officials.
Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said police officers responded where the little girl was struck, which was on 3rd Avenue near the intersection of Church Street.
“Upon their arrival, officers found a 4-year-old female laying on the street next to the curb unresponsivie,” Brooks said. “Emergency medical technicians with the Atmore Ambulance Service was able to resuscitate the child.”
Brooks said the girl was LifeFlighted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
“The last I heard was that she was going to be OK,” Brooks said.
Brooks confirmed that Shannon Black of Atmore was intoxicated when she hit the little girl. “The driver of the vehicle was administered field sobriety tests and was arrested for diving under the influence at the scene after officers were able to determine that she was impaired,” he said. “She was also driving on a suspended license.”
As a result, Black was also charged with assault II.
“The case is still under investigation and future charges may by pending,” Brooks said.
