Escambia Academy will hit the road this week to face Fort Dale Academy in Greenville to continue in region action.

The Cougars are coming off of their first win of the season, a 47-8 victory over Lancaster Academy of Smyrna, Tenn.

EA running back Kris Brown had an impressive night, scoring six touchdowns to lead the Cougars. Teammate Trey Turner scored two touchdowns.

“We’ve had two tough games,” EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said about the first two games. “We told the guys they had a good game. This should help us go up from here.”

Fountain said this week’s game against Fort Dale is an important one as far as region play is concerned.

“They’re always well coached,” he said. “They’re a tough ball team. This a very important game for us in the region.”

As of right now, Autauga Academy and Monroe Academy stand as the only two teams that are undefeated in the region.

Escambia County, on the other hand, will be starting a four-game road stretch this week as the Blue Devils visit B.C. Rain at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile for a Class 5A, Region 1 matchup.

ECHS suffered a bitter 43-0 loss to Vigor last week, and is on a three-game losing streak leading into the game against BCRHS.

The Blue Devils played well on defense during the first half against the Wolves, only trailing 16-0 at halftime.

ECHS head football coach Royce Young said after the game that holding the Wolves to two scores at the break was a big positive.

“Against Vigor, even two scores down isn’t a big deficit at halftime,” Young said.

After this week, the Blue Devils will travel to play at Jackson, at T.R. Miller and at Faith Academy before coming back home for homecoming against Williamson on Oct. 9.

In week two against W.S. Neal, ECHS took a big blow when senior running back Gaetyn Thames tore his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). Thames is out for the rest of the season.

Down in Bratt, Fla., the Northview Chiefs will host Gulf Breeze in regular season action this week.

NHS is coming off of a bye week, and Chiefs head football coach Sid Wheatley said he used that time to get some players rested up.

After this week, the Chiefs will hit the road to play at Chipley, and then will host Vancleave, Miss. and Maplesville in the following weeks.
