Blue Devils to face 5A power Jackson

Escambia County will be facing Class 5A powerhouse Jackson this week on the road.
The Blue Devils are coming off two straight shutouts to Vigor and B.C. Rain leading into the contest against the Aggies.
On the 24-0 loss to BCHS, Blue Devils head football coach Royce Young said the team played well defensively in the first half, which has been common as of late.
“Offensively, we don’t execute very well,” Young said. “We just haven’t found our way since lost our starting tail back (Gaetyn Thames). We really don’t have that play or a couple plays you hang your hat on.”
Young said the Blue Devils use a trial and error approach every week to find out what is the best way to move the ball down field.
Leading into this week’s game, the Blue Devils will be yet again down a few players as running back Tim Finklea (leg), Zion Jackson (ribs) and receiver Devin Robinson (leg) will probably not return to action this week.
“It just seems like one of those years where you’re turning around and losing some type of player due to injuries,” Young said.
Before Escambia County’s game finished up last week in Mobile, Young told his players that they’re going to have to look in the mirror and decide what kind of man you are even if you are battling injuries or not.
“It’s no secret, and everybody knows that year in and year out, the 5A champion is coming out of our region,” he said. “After Friday night’s results, it’s split and can go another way.
“Jackson is an outstanding football team,” he said.
The Aggies enter the game 3-0 overall, and 2-0 in Class 5A, Region 1. ECHS is 0-4.
Kick off Friday night is at 7.
