A.C. Moore Elementary School and the Escambia County School System are hosting a special event tomorrow, Oct. 22, for Statewide Parent Visitation Month.
The event, which is themed Homes and Schools: Cultivating Positive Relationships, is for anyone who is responsible for raising school-aged children.
“The goal is to connect home and school better,” Alabama State Superintendent of Education Thomas Bice said. “Parent engagement — now more than ever — is a key factor to student success in school year round. By setting aside a specific month, our public schools can focus on the importance of parent engagement and investment in their children’s education.”
A.C. Moore Elementary has planned special events during the day, and the sessions include local and state initiatives such as the Alabama Reading Initiative; Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative; school policies; and safety issues.
The parent day will last from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. A.C. Moore’s media center, computer lab and parent resource center will be open from 7:30 a.m. until the end of the program for parents and guardians to tour and speak with faculty.
The schedule is as follows:
• ARMT + results and school wide review, Principal John Brantley, 9-10 a.m.
• How can I help my child become a more fluent reader, Reading Coach Debbie Hester, 10-10:30 a.m. and 4-4:30 p.m.
• New Drugs on the Block, Counselor Tonya Ragan, 10:30-11 a.m. and 4:30-5 p.m.
