Escambia County moved the ball well on Monroe County, but that wasn’t enough in a 14-6 season-closing loss tonight.
The Blue Devils led 6-0 at halftime after showing promise on offense in the first 24 minutes, but the Tigers scored a late touchdown in the second half to get the win.
MCHS blocked a punt deep and that led to the Tigers tying the game at 6-all.
With two minutes to go, MCHS scored and got the 2-point conversion to seal the deal, all after a 90-yard drive.
“When we got the ball back, we couldn’t do anything with it,” ECHS head football coach Royce Young said.
The Blue Devils scored its only touchdown of the night with no time left in the first quarter.
ECHS quarterback Rashaun Flavors used his quick feet and scrambling capability to find the end zone from 48 yards out.
For the rest of the first half, the Blue Devils played well on defense, shutting down the MCHS attack.
With the loss, ECHS finishes the season 1-9.
“When you go 1-9, it’s hard to find a lot of positives, but we had a bunch of young guys that started and played key roles for us this year,” Young said. “We hope the guys we have coming back… we hope this loss stings like it does the coaches. Maybe we’ll understand going into the off season what it takes to turn the program around.”
