United Way of Baldwin County is holding its first-ever clay shoot at Bushy Creek Clays on Sat., Nov. 6 in Perdido.
The event is being held to raise funds for the many programs in North Baldwin County that’s supported and funded by United Way.
The format of the shoot calls for teams of four to shoot a round of 100 targets each from 14 stations. Each person will shoot six to eight targets at each station.
Cost per team is $500 or $125 per shooter.
United Way Executive Director Marina Simpson said right now, the organization is looking for sponsors and teams at present.
The idea to hold a clay shoot came from realizing that it’s a new and popular fundraiser, she said.
“We know that this is something that’s gaining momentum in this part of the country,” Simpson said. “We wanted to be one of the leaders in it as opposed to a golf tournament. We just said you know what, ‘let’s try it.’
“It’s getting a lot of publicity, and people are picking up on it,” she said.
Simpson said lunch will be served at noon and the shoot will start at 1 p.m. Scoring for each team will be tallied, and the team with the highest number of hits will win the event.
All participants will be provided a T-shirt, lunch and beverage. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams, and a trophy will also be given to the male and female shooter with the highest score. In addition, shooters are asked to bring shotgun and shells, eye and ear protection, shell bag and rain gear.
Those who are interested in participating in the clay shoot can visit United Way of Baldwin County’s website at www.unitedway-bc.org, or call the UW office at 251-943-2110. Registration on the day of the shoot begins at 10 a.m.
For those interested in sponsoring the shoot, there are five opportunities to be a sponsor — as a Gold Sponsor for $1,500, as a Silver Sponsor for $750, as a Cart Sponsor for $300, as a T-shirt Sponsor for $150 and as a Station Sponsor for $100.
Across Baldwin County, United Way funds 32 agencies. There are 23 agencies in the northern part of the county.
