The newly reformed and renamed Escambia County High School Athletic Club held their first meeting last Tuesday at Escambia County High School.

The Athletic Club meeting was attended by more than 35 supporters.

Escambia County High School Athletic Director Mark Heaton said he was pleased with the number of people present.

“Having that many people show up in support of this club shows a tremendous amount of support,” Heaton said.

Formerly known as the Quarterback Club, the Athletic Club is trying to get back on track after a couple of down years.

Heaton said reaffirming the club will help all of the Blue Devils’ athletic programs.

“We just want to get this club reestablished,” Heaton said. “It will really help garner support for all of our male and female athletic teams.”

In order to help the Blue Devils’ athletics, the club and athletes will work together to gain support for Atmore’s teams.

Heaton said the main focus is to help find funds and support from the residents of Atmore.

“Our main intention is to raise money and support from the community,” Heaton said. “We want to get support back on the kids on these teams.”

At the meeting last week, officers were also elected.

Taking the office of president was Marty Rolin, vice president is Scotty Flowers, treasurer Karen Flowers and secretary Shirley Hubert.
