Land is being cleared for Popeyes restaurant to be built on Highway 21, near the interstate.

The new Louisiana Kitchen eatery will be located next to Waffle House, and will serve up chicken, tenders, seafood, sandwiches and other treats.

Popeyes was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, La., and is the world’s second largest quick-service chicken concept based on the number of units.

As of December 2015, the restaurant had 2,539 operating restaurants in the United States, three territories and 27 foreign countries.
