The Atmore Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the burglaries of Earle’s Jewelers, Central Farm Supply and Marty’s Furniture that took place last week.
Chief Chuck Brooks said the department has recovered most of the property that was stolen.
A 17 year old has been charged with three counts of burglary III, one count of theft of property I, one count of theft of property IV and two counts of criminal mischief III.
The burglaries took place last Thursday in the downtown area.
Brooks said the first burglary occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m.
“An officer with the Atmore Police Department was on patrol on North Main Street when he heard an audible alarm going off at one of the businesses,” Brooks said. “The officer quickly learned the alarm was coming from Earle’s Jewelers.”
Brooks said the patrol officer noticed the front door of the jewelry store had been damaged.
“Officers entered the building, but did not find anyone inside,” he said. “Minutes later, the store owner arrived on scene and verified that some jewelry items were missing.”
The second burglary occurred at Marty’s Furniture on Howard Street.
“Officers were told the suspect made entry into the building and damaged the alarm control panel,” Brooks said. “No furniture items were taken.”
