Escambia County Distinguished Young Woman Maggie Rowell will be participating in the upcoming DYW’s state program at Frazer United Methodist church in Montgomery Jan. 20-21.
The T.R. Miller High School student begins her week on Jan. 13, and will be staying with Larry and Kathy Schoudel. The DYW program has participants stay with host families during the competition.
Rowell’s roomate for the week will be Calhoun County DYW Brittany Lee.
Rowell was chosen as Escambia County’s representative in July, and has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming state program. After the state program, she will continue in her role as the county DYW to bring the program’s platform of “Be Your Best Self” to local schools.
She is invovled in many school activities at TRM, and volunteers with several community organizations.
Participants will be competing for $41,000 in cash scholarships and $2 million in grant scholarships, and the opportunity to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama.
