BOE makes hires

The Escambia County Board of Education approved personnel recommendations, and recognized the month of January as Alabama School Board Member Appreciation Month at its meeting on Thursday.
Superintendent John Knott said this month is one where all should salute local educational leaders.
The county board of education oversees 4,500 students and 644 fulltime employees, he said.
The personnel recommendations approved at the meeting include:
• approved reinstating 37 days of sick leave to David Lanier, the director of the Escambia Career Readiness Center, due to an on-the-job injury;
• approved the reinstatement of 1.5 days of sick leave to Randall Jackson, assistant principal at Escambia County High School, due to an on-the-job injury;
Resignation
• Royce Young, as teacher, head football coach and athletic director at ECHS, effective May 26, 2017;
• Doug Hoehn, as teacher, head football coach and athletic director at W.S. Neal High School, effective Jan. 31;
• Kyle Cinereski, bus driver at Brewton Bush Shop, effective Jan. 23;
Employment
• Rachel Wood, as special education teacher aide at Escambia County Middle School, effective Jan. 23;
• Michelle Uriegas, as special education teacher at ECMS, effective Jan. 23 (replacing Kathryn Griffin);
• Anna Wheeler, as substitute teacher, Title I After-School Program at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, effective Jan. 5;
• Jessica Lockett, as substitute teacher, Title I After-School Program at RPES, effective Jan. 18;
Employment change
• Wendy Stokes, as teacher aide at ECMS to office aide at ECMS, effective Jan. 9 (replacing Latrice Bush);
• Rebecca Murray, as teacher at A.C. Moore Elementary School, to counselor at A.C. Moore, effective Jan. 23 (replacing Tonya Ragan);
• and after meeting in executive session for 27 minutes, the board approved the suspension of an employee whose name wasn’t released.
In other business, Knott said the renewal of the bus fleet, which includes purchasing 33 additional buses, is on schedule to have them arrive next Friday. The cost to the budget is zero, he said.
Additionally, Knott said the renovation projects at WSNHS should be complete by the end of the academic school year.
