Don Bradley

Mr. Don Bradley, 83, of Andalusia, passed away Jan. 25, 2017, at his home in the Red Oak Community — the same house in which he was born.

The family received friends Jan. 27 at Foreman Funeral Home in Andalusia. Funeral services were held on Sat., Jan. 28, at Red Oak Baptist Church. Rick Freeman, Eugene Meadows and Mark Perry officiated. Interment followed in Red Oak Cemetery with Foreman Funeral directing.

Don grew up in the Red Oak Community and also lived for a period of time in Wauchula, Fla. and in Uriah. He worked as a farmer for much of his life, retiring in 1995 from Atmore Truckers Farmers’ Cooperative in Atmore. He was a dedicated Christian and deeply committed to his family. He was ordained as a deacon in his early 20s and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher throughout his life. He especially loved working in his garden and growing potted plants.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Elmore Bradley; sons, Gary Bradley of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and Randall Bradley of Waco, Texas; brothers, Frank Bradley of the Red Oak Community and Hugh Bradley, of Wauchula; sisters, Patsy Barrington of Austin, Texas and Peggy Chambers of Florala; and grandchildren, Hannah Bradley of Atlanta, Ga. and Isaac Bradley of Waco.

Don was preceded in death by his son Dale Bradley who died in 1989. Mr. Bradley was born Feb. 16, 1933, to the late Charles Frank and Myrtle Matthews Bradley.

Eubie Dee Byrd

Mr. Eubie Dee Byrd, 89, passed away on Fri., Jan. 27, 2017, in Perdido.

He was a native of McCullough and a resident of Perdido for the past 67 years. He was a member of the Perdido Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Dee and Claudia Byrd; two sisters; two brothers; and one son, Ray Byrd.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Iris Byrd of Perdido; one son, Don Byrd of Dozier; one daughter, Linda Byrd (Paul) Carter of Nokomis; two brothers, Bob Byrd and Jerry Byrd, both of California; one sister, Jean Branton of California; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Jan. 30 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Joanna Arrington Barrow

Mrs. Joanna Arrington Barrow, 46, passed away on Mon., Jan. 30, 2017, in Century, Fla.

Mrs. Barrow was a native of Montgomery and has resided in Century since 1982. She was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Dorothy Arrington; one brother, Jesse Arrington; and one sister, Belinda Miano.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Pastor Robert Barrow of Century; three sons, Ryne (Bethany) Barrow of Bratt, Fla., Zachary (Lauren) Barrow of Century and Kevin (Courtney) Barrow of Century; two brothers, David (Deborah) Arrington of Flomaton and Daniel Arrington of Flomaton; and one sister, Bonnie (Steve) Jackson of Wrightstown, N.J.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, Thurs., Feb. 2, 2017, at 10 a.m. from the Faith Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Barrow officiating.

Burial will follow at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Wed., Feb. 1, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hughen, David Hughen, Jeff Kelly, Tony Nolen, Jeremy Bondurant and Buck Lowery.

Joseph Paul Pettway

Mr. Joseph Paul Pettway, 67, a resident of Prichard, passed away Jan. 22, 2017, at his residence.

He was a cook at J. Rodgers BBQ in Saraland for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., Feb. 3, 2017, from the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile with the Rev. Dr. Clyde Maye Jr. as pastor. Interment will be held in Prichard Memorial Cemetery in Eight Mile Alabama.

Mayberry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Julian Howard Cole

Julian Howard Cole, 79, a resident of Atmore, passed away Thurs., Jan. 19, 2017, at his residence surrounded by family.

Cole was born March 8, 1937, to the late Grady and Eola Amos-Cole. He served as an Atmore police officer, mechanic and bus driver, and retired from the Escambia County Road Commission.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, a daughter, five siblings, eight aunts and uncles and four brothers in law.

He is survived by his former wife, Delorise Washington Cole of Atmore; one sister, Rosie Bell Teague of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Timothy Cole of Atmore; two daughters, Angelia Cole and Remonda Cole, both of Atmore; two grandsons, Damien Cole and Christopher Cole, both of Atmore; three granddaughters, Tocarra Cole, Elbony Cole and Amber Graham, all of Atmore; and two great-grandsons, Virgil Peoples Jr. and Jaydan Peoples, both of Atmore.

Funeral services were held Jan. 28, from Mayberry Funeral Home with Michael Wilson serving as officiate. Interment was held in Stallworth Cemetery.

Kelly Allen Bryant

Kelly Allen Bryant, 49, of Fort Payne and formally of Brewton, passed away Mon., Jan. 23, 2017, at her home.

Bryant was a registered nurse and a graduate of T.R. Miller School. Funeral services were held Jan. 26, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Fort Payne with the Rev. Taylor Gallman officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Bryant; son, Seth Bryant and wife, Julie Kotz; daughters, Erica (George) Huff and Haley Bryant; grandson, Jacob Bryant; mother in law, Mazie C. Bryant; and father in law and wife, James and Carol Bryant.

Glenwood Cemetery, 1002 Grand Avenue SW, Fort Payne, AL, 35967, was in charge of arrangements.

 

Nancy Allene Hollis Bartley

Nancy Allene Hollis Bartley of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Mon., Jan. 30, 2017, in Atmore at the age of 88.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1928, in Gadsden to E. Lamar Hollis and Grace Hooper Hollis who preceded her in death. They moved to the Walnut Hill area at an early age. She graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1947. After graduating from high school, she worked at Southland Telephone and later worked at Chemstrand. She and Ernest worked with Manna Food Bank through the Council on Aging.

Ernest preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a member of Pine Barren Baptist Church, where she was very active. She was a member of the Century Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two step-children, Robert and wife, Nina Bartley of Walnut Hill; and Faye and husband Bonnie Franklin of Fort Payne; one step-grandson, Scott and wife, Brenda Bartley of Pensacola; and one aunt, Diane Goodwin of Pell City.

Nancy had requested that her body be donated to science. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Patsy Cumbie Taylor

Mrs. Patsy Cumbie Taylor, 55, passed away on Mon., Jan. 23, 2017, in Mobile.

She was a native of Atmore and a resident of Excel for the past 12 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and was an avid hunter and fisherman. She was a member of the Uriah Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her father, Willard Cumbie; and two brothers, Edwin Jeter and Dannie Jeter.

She is survived by her mother, Effie Lee Cumbie of Uriah; husband of 12 years, Neil Taylor of Excel; three daughters, Rachael (Jon) Odom of Excel, Hannah Odom of Excel and Carmen Odom of Excel; one brother, Earl Jeter of Atmore; three sisters, Sherry Buckhault of Atmore, Cheryl (Joe) Matthews of Repton and Marilyn Peavy of Uriah; and five grandchildren.

Visitation was held Jan. 25 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Roger “Dale” Brunson

Roger “Dale” Brunson, 60, passed away on Mon., Jan. 23, 2017, at his home in the Gandyville Community of Century, Fla.

He was a lifelong resident of Century, graduating from Century High School. Dale loved trucks and followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, driving 18 wheelers long distance and later in life driving for trucking companies locally. He was a master at playing drums; he played drums in the high school band and played in several local garage bands. He never had a lesson but there was nothing he couldn’t play.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grover Brunson and Flora Ann Jernigan Brunson; grandparents, Ed and Gladys Brunson, Fred and Stella Jernigan; and a special aunt and uncle, Haynes and Elmira Crapps.

He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Field (Scott); a niece, Heather Phillips (Chris); great nephew, Hayden Phillips, all of Pensacola, Fla.; aunt and uncle, Freddy and Jackie Jernigan of Milton, Fla.; aunt, Mary Stinebaugh of Farmersville, Texas; special cousins, Doris and George Chavers of Century; and numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Jan. 26 from the Poplar Dell Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitch Herring officiating.

Visitation was held Jan. 26 from the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Donnie Simmons, Greg Hunter, Steve Newberry, George Chavers, Carl Gandy and Fred H. Jernigan Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Poplar Dell Baptist Church building fund.

Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
