Escambia County responded in the second half in a scoreless game to beat Wilcox Central 8-0 last Friday night at home.

The win marks the first official victory for Blue Devils head football coach Rico Jackson at the Atmore school.

“I’ll take a win if it was 1-0 or 10-0,” Jackson said. “We’ll take it, and go back to the drawing board, and get ready for next week.”
ECHS and WCHS battled throughout the first half, taking the game at 0-0 to the break.

The Blue Devils’ score came on a pass play on fourth down, Jackson said.

Jordaun Patterson threw the ball for some 30 yards to Malik Brown.

This week, ECHS faces tough Mobile team UMS-Wright in the port city.

Jackson said the boys are going to have to work on themselves to get ready for the game.

“We’ll have film this week,” he said, adding that they prepared for WCHS without film. “We’re just happy to come out with a (win).”
