The Atmore City Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for Tiger-Sul Products LLC at its meeting Monday night.
On July 29, a fire broke out at the Atmore plant, nearly causing 100 percent of fire damage.
Coastal Gateway Executive Director Will Ruzic said they’ve been working with the state to help Tiger-Sul get back to operations and its employees back to work.
“The state classifies this as a new project,” he said. “This allows us to get some incentives in place.”
Ruzic said this rebuild of Tiger-Sul is going to be a $3.6 million investment. The state abatements on the property are for equipment and those used in the rebuild, he said.
In other business, the council:
• approved the use of Houston Avery Park for a Trick or Treat event on Oct. 31;
• approved the use of Houston Avery Park for a rib cooking competition for Escambia County High School. The funds raised will go toward the football team and band.
• adopted a proclamation naming the week of Sept. 24-30 as National Family Week. This is a proclamation the city adopts every year. National Family Week is a week that encourages citizens to join together and spend time with their families and by engaging in appropriate ceremonies and activities to honor and strengthen the city and state’s families, according to the proclamation.
