Soccer season is getting ready to kick off at the Atmore Area YMCA as registration began Monday and runs until Thursday, Aug. 12.
Once registration for teams is complete, the Y will hold a skills clinic on Aug. 12 to teach players the basic skills needed for the sport.
Ross Terry, manager of the Atmore Area YMCA, said the skills clinic is used to teach the ins and outs of soccer to newcomers as well as enhance the skills of experienced players, so they can play the sport to the best of their abilities.
“We run all the players who have signed up through skills tests and drills to get them accustomed to the game,” Terry said. “We teach the three-to-five-year olds the basic skills and not to touch the ball, the six-to-eight-year-old players focus on passing drills and the nine to 12-year-old teams try and put all the skills together.”
Registration for soccer at the Y varies in price for members and nonmembers.
The fee for members of the Y is $40 for the first child with the cost at $25 for each additional child that is signed up. Nonmembers must pay $60 per child.
Any child registered after the Aug. 12 cutoff date will be charged a $15 late fee.
