Escambia Academy’s MJ Jones’ double-double helped lead the Cougars to a 81-33 senior night region victory over Clarke Prep School on Tuesday.
Jones added 10 points to his tally for the night, and joined four other Cougars in double figures. Ti Taylor led EA with 19 points; Neikel Robinson and Fred Flavors scored 16 points each; and Jace Daniels chipped in 10 points.
“We passed and executed real well on both ends (Tuesday night),” EA coach James Lee said. “We stayed in our lanes defensively and it turned into a lot of easy baskets off the press.”
Once the Cougars got back on offense off of transition, they made quick work with the ball, firing lasers inside for buckets.
Hight Finch led CPS with seven points. William Averitt chipped in six points.
With the victory, EA enters the AISA Class 2A, Region 2 tournament this week at CPS as the top seed. The Cougars also earned a berth in the Elite 8 tournament next week.
EA begins region tournament play on Friday after securing a first-round bye.
In girls action, CPS topped EA 46-41.
Ashlyn Glick led the Lady Cougars (7-10) with 18 points.
In other basketball action, Escambia County fell 67-64 to Monroe County in area play.
Lue Williams led the Blue Devils with 17 points; Malik Brown had 12 points; Demetrion Barnes had nine points; and Nick Davison and Jordaun Patterson chipped in six points apiece.
