Brooks said when officers arrived, emergency personnel reported that the victim, a 17-year-old juvenile male, had injuries that were life threatening.

“Attending physicians stated that the victim suffered a punctured lunch, and the bullet also struck his spine, leaving the victim paralyzed,” he said in the release. “The victim was conscious and was able to identify the person who shot him.”

Brooks said the victim was then air lifted by Life Flight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Brooks said APD crime scene technicians arrived at the scene of the shooting in the 300 block of East 4th Street, where they began to collect evidence related to the crime for the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.

Brooks said the suspect, a 17-year-old male, came to the APD with his mother, and after speaking with investigators, was arrested for attempting to commit murder, and was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. Brooks didn’t confirm the suspect’s name.
