Michael Wayne Eggers was executed by lethal injection at the William C. Correctional Holman Correctional Facility just outside of Atmore tonight, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Eggers’ execution was carried out at 6:45 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at 7:29, ADOC Public Information Officer Bob Horton said.
Horton said in the release that Eggers was sentenced to death for the 2000 capital murder of Bennie Francis Murray, 67, in Walker County.
Eggers’ final words were, “no ma’am,” when the warden (Cynthia Stewart) asked him if he had a final statement.
Eggers had two family members, a spiritual advisor and two friends witness the execution, Horton said in the release.
There were no witnesses for the victim.
