Officials: Ceremony will be split into two parts

In spite of the inclement weather slated for Friday night, graduation exercises at Escambia County High School will go on, officials said today.

Principal Dennis Fuqua said that the graduation ceremony will be split into two parts, or Act 1 and 2, and will be held in the school’s new auditorium. Both acts will encompass the entire ceremony, including the valedictorian and salutatorian addresses, a keynote address, seniors receiving their diplomas, etc.

Fuqua said the first act, or ceremony, is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. Act 2, or the second ceremony, begins at 7 p.m.

In between ceremonies, there is going to be an intermission, Fuqua said, and all seniors will congregate in the cafeteria prior to commencing with the second ceremony.

Fuqua said the reason why the school decided to split the ceremony into two parts is to allow each senior to have 11 family members in attendance.

Additionally, the principal said they polled the senior class and 90 percent were in favor of having two ceremonies.

Fuqua said tickets to the event will be handed out tomorrow, seniors will receive specific instructions and that each ticket’s color coincides with the ceremony time.
