A fiber optic issue led to a multi-state high-speed Internet and phone service outage for Mediacom customers Tuesday, according to officials.
Thad Simmons, a public relations officer with Mediacom, said in a release that the fiber optic issue occurred in Mediacom’s redundant network in an area of southwest Georgia.
“The fiber (light) went out, and our team is investigating that,” Simmons said. “It is extremely rare to have these types of incidents occur in the same time period, and affecting customers in the same geography.”
Simmons said video impact is less and area by area depending on the location of the community with respect to the location for video signal dissemination.
Areas of impact include Albany, Ga., Andalusia, Thomasville, Gulf Breeze, Fla., Milton, San Destin, Navarre, Southport and Wewahitchka, and nearby communities.
