City adopts sales tax holiday

The Atmore City Council approved a purchase and sales agreement with Jack Marshall Foods at its meeting on Monday.
Mayor Jim Staff said the purchase and sales agreement is for the lot south of the Hampton Inn at the Rivercane Industrial Development.
Staff said the cost was $7 a foot, and a survey crew will determine the size of the lot.
Jack Marshall Foods owns Kentucky Fried Chicken.
In other business, the council:
• adopted a resolution to hold the Back to School Sales Tax Holiday next weekend.
The 2018 Sales Tax Holiday will be held beginning Fri., July 20 at 12:01 a.m. until Sun., July 22, at midnight.
The sales tax holiday gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state sales tax. However, local sales tax may apply.
