Sometimes bye weeks come at the best times.

Before the break, Northview will take on Holmes County in Bratt, Fla., and is aiming to be over .500 by next week.

“This is a good opportunity to come out and perform well, and put our record over .500,” Chiefs head football coach Derek Marshman said. “Holmes County is a good team. They’re very well coached, and disciplined. They’ve got some good players in key positions. We’re going to have to go out and execute and play with high energy.”

Marshman said HCHS likes to spread the ball around, and a good signal caller.

“He got hurt last Friday so we don’t know he’ll play,” Marshman said. “They have a couple running backs who are hard to tackle, and have great speed.”

Additionally, the coach said Holmes County’s freshman receiver is good at what he does on the field.

Offensively, HCHS gives defenses fits as it likes to keep them off balance, Marshman said.

Given that next week is a bye week for the Chiefs, it hasn’t been hard to keep them focused on the game, Marshman said.

“We’re taking it one week at a time,” he said. “Half of them knew that we had a bye week next week. This is one of the earliest bye weeks we’ve ever hard. One year, we had a bye week at the last week of the season. Last year, we had it at week eight or nine.

“We set a goal to make sure we get out of the first chunk of the season over .500,” he said.

Kick off in Bratt is at 7 p.m.
