Atmore’s 1st wrestling show one to remember

A first happened for Atmore last weekend.
The Dirty 30 Southern Heat Wrestling Center held its first wrestling show, The New Beginning, at its training center on Ridgeley Street.
Under the canopy of the renovated training center, five matches were held for approximately 200 wrestling fans.
As the ring announcer began talking about the night’s event, the hairs on the back of my neck and arms began to rise. For a wrestling fan such as myself, I was at home.
As I sat near the back watching and taking pictures of the action, I couldn’t help but think about good stories.
Wrestling, in its truest of forms, is all about story telling.
You have a good guy (face) and a bad guy (heel) who square off in the ring. Now, I must admit that the line up of talent hired for the event was quite new to me.
However, it didn’t take long for me to be one of the many either booing or cheering for the villain and good guy, respectively.
One of the best moments of the night came in a singles match between Oliver Steele and Jordan Kingsley. Both put together a good match and the crowd was quite into the whole spectacle.
However (a word I seem to be using a lot in this week’s column) Alister Crowe interfered in the match causing a disqualification, where no one wins.
The ring announcer said the match ended in a “DQ” and officials would decide what the proper outcome of the match would be later.
After some time, the ring announcer announced that Steel, Kingsley and Crowe would compete in a three-way dance later that evening.
That moment of what’s going to happen next kept the audience and myself guessing, and that’s something that good wrestling shows do — keeps the audience asking questions.
When the night was said and done, the audience learned the set up for a big tag match for Sat., Oct. 27, at the center.
Danny Rolin, who won the Dirty 30 Southern Heat Wrestling heavyweight championship on Saturday, will select a tag partner of his choosing for the bout in just over a week’s time.
Yeah, the event went well and I had a good time. Here’s hoping for more.
