Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24, and Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said the day, set between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is one that means a lot to local businesses.
“It makes a greater impact on the city, and lets local merchants know we care about them,” Staff said.
Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and U.S. consumers have reported spending an estimated $85 billion plus at independent retailers and restaurants over these eight days alone, according to Shop Small’s website.
According to Shop Small’s website, small businesses are generally independently-owned and can exist in a variety of forms including, but not limited to, corner stores, online boutiques, among many others. They can give a neighborhood strength and create vibrant, diverse communities.
While shoppers are out and about in Atmore on Saturday, police officials urge residents to secure and hide their valuables in their vehicles. Valuables need to be hidden or placed in the trunk of the car. The car also needs to be locked.
Chief Chuck Brooks said those who see anything strange or if anyone approaches begging for money or just acting suspicious to call the APD at 251-368-9141.
