City council awards $631K resurfacing bid

The Atmore City Council awarded a more than $631,000 street resurfacing bid to Mobile Asphalt Co. LLC at its meeting on Monday.
The street resurfacing project includes the following streets:
• Howard Street
• Oak Hill
• Short Street
• Church Street
• 2nd Avenue off of Church Street
• First Street from the southern potion of McRae to Pine
• Forest Hill Drive
• Brookwood Road
Civil Southeast LLC, an engineering group out of Andalusia, recommended the low bid be awarded to Mobile Asphalt Co. LLC.
Project Manager Jeremy McMath said three and a half years ago, a resurfacing project entailed laying 4,200 tons of asphalt. He said this project is slated to have 5,000 tons laid.
In other business, the council:
• reappointed Voncile Stallworth and Chapman Maxwell to the zoning board. The appointments include a three-year term.
