There is an 80 percent chance that a cyclone will form in the Gulf of Mexico through the next five days, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the NWS’s National Hurricane Center website, some low pressure over central Georgia is forecast to move south toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, where an area of low pressure is expected to form in a couple of days.
Additionally, some development is possible from there, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the end of the week while the low nears the northern Gulf Coast.
Regardless of any development, the system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the northern and eastern Gulf Coast later this week.
The rain forecast for the Atmore area includes a 30 percent chance today, 40 percent chance tomorrow during the day, and 20 percent tomorrow night; 40 percent chance on Wednesday; and 50 percent on Thursday and Friday.
