Thirty years ago, in 1989, Atmore celebrated the 10th annual Fiddlers’ Convention, an event that pulled many local musicians as well as visitors to Atmore.

A kitchen fire in Century, Fla., caused the deaths of a 5-year-old boy and a 61-year-old man. They were both alive when they were pulled from the fire but died shortly thereafter. A woman was also pulled from the house and survived.
