“Find the rhythm. Find the rhythm.”
“Step this way. Step this way.”
That’s what rang through my head as I danced during the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce’s first ever Evening in White event last weekend.
The event, held as a fundraiser for a new dog park in Atmore, featured different theme-styled tables and food under a white tent canopy just in case of rain. The Tip Tops out of Mobile was the featured musical guest.
When I arrived at the event, I immediately knew that I had made a mistake — I wasn’t wearing anything white.
Of course, I was poked fun of about this, and that was fine.
I began to make my way around the event, taking pictures of couples and groups for our newspaper and magazine.
I marveled at what others were wearing and what was featured on the different tables.
I saw everything from really cool hats and dresses the ladies were wearing and sear-sucker-like jackets men had on their shoulders. Speaking of shoulders, I also saw quite a few suspenders being worn. Are they coming back?
As the night went along, the festive atmosphere didn’t let up at all.
With a great band playing the hits, I thought about one thing — the event was a hit.
Kudos goes to the chamber for their efforts in putting together this event.
Here’s to next year — I’ll wear something white, promise.
