Escambia Academy’s Jason Davis and Shannon Wheat scored two touchdowns each to help lead the Cougars to a 35-7 victory over Patrician Academy Friday night at Bachelor Field.
Davis and Wheat’s first scores occurred in the second quarter after EA trailed 7-0 in the first quarter.
Davis scored on a 1-yard dash, and Wheat broke off a 40-yard sprint right before halftime to make it 14-7.
In the second half, Davis added another 1-yard scoring rush, and Wheat finished the night scoring on a 33-yard scamper.
Ty Williams split the second-half scores with a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
“To me, it was a good team effort,” EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said. “After the first quarter (Cougars trailed 7-0), we played really good football, and got after it and played physical.”
Fountain said the boys didn’t get off to a fast start like he’d hoped, but once they got their focus and a feeling of possession in their favor, everything starting rolling for them pretty quick.
Wheat finished the night with 178 yards on 12 carries and three scores.
Next week, EA visits Bessemer Academy.
