Family loses Woods Road home to Monday afternoon blaze

Personnel with the Atmore and Poarch fire departments teamed up Monday afternoon to contain a fire that broke out just before 6 p.m. on Woods Road.

Upon arrival by the units, the house located at 575 Woods Road and owned by Debra Ann Helton, was completely engulfed in flames.

Four units with the Atmore Fire Department as well as two units from the Poarch Fire Department are on the scene along with officers from the Atmore Police Department and deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

According to an officer on the scene, family members said about a week ago they had been having problems with breakers tripping on the end of the house where the fire started as well as mice in the attic of the home.
