The Escambia County Blue Devils junior varsity football team cruised to a 26-6 victory over the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles Monday night at Herbert Barnes Stadium.

The Blue Devils (1-1) controlled the game on the ground and through the air on their way to their first win.

Andrew Richey, head coach of the Blue Devils, said the team was much improved from their first game of the season.

“We played much better against W.S. Neal,” Richey said. “They knew their assignments and did things correctly. Our defense really pinned their ears back and got after it last night too.”

The running game was key in controlling the tempo of the game, but the Blue Devils showed that they can pass the ball when needed.

Freshman quarterback Chris Johnson connected on two passing touchdowns with sophomore receiver Tyquaiz George. He also hit freshman tight end Matthew Quimby with a pass on a successful two-point conversion.

On the ground, William Brooks and Johnson each scored rushing touchdowns.

The Blue Devils next game is Monday at home against T.R. Miller. Kick off is set for 6:30 p.m.
