Down 17-14 at halftime, the Escambia County Blue Devils mounted a comeback against the Faith Academy Rams in the third and fourth quarters to come away with a 28-17 victory in Mobile Friday night.
The Blue Devils (4-1, 2-1) played four quarters of hardnosed football in order to get the win over a Class 5A opponent, according to their head coach Mark Heaton.
Heaton said his team showed better intensity in the first half than they had previously.
“We played hard in the first half,” Heaton said. “I think we made a handflul of mistakes and let them run the ball right at us, but our intensity was much better.”
The second half went much better for the Blue Devils as they outscored Faith 14-0 to get on top.
Heaton said it was a good fight for his team to win on the road.
“We played great in the second half,” Heaton said. “It’s a big win for us, and we showed a lot of good things going on the road and getting this win.”
Next week, the Blue Devils take on the Thomasville Tigers.
Heaton said it will be a good challenge for ECHS.
“How do you kill the monster,” Heaton said. “We will just keep doing what we always do and hopefully, come out and play well against them.”
The Chiefs and Tigers kick off 7 p.m. in Thomasville.
