Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and Youth Leadership Atmore officials announced July 21 the cancelation of the 2020-2021 ambassador and youth leadership programs.
Program Director Jodi James said in a letter that after careful consideration, committees for both programs felt it to be in the best interest of the participants.
“We have been carefully monitoring the information from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Alabama Public Health Department and we want to do our part in flattening the curve,” James said. “While we are saddened by this decision, the health and safety of our youth will always be our first and foremost concern.”
The chamber ambassador program is a volunteer program with the chamber, and the group consists of qualifying and dedicated high school seniors throughout the Atomre area.
Youth Leadership Atmore is also volunteer program within the chamber. The group consists of qualifying and dedicated high school juniors throughout the Atmore area.
“While we are disappointed that we are unable to host these programs, we know that it’s the right decision to make,” James said. “Both programs require a lot of community involvement and we want to do what is right to protect everyone during this pandemic.”
James said the chamber will be using this time to focus on enhancing both prorgrams and regroup in May 2021.
