Thirty years ago in 1991, retired Adm. Jeremiah Denton, who  was held as a prisoner of war (POW) in VietNam before being elected senator from Alabama, was chosen to serve as the chairman of the special 4th of July celebration of the Alabama troops in the Persian Gulf.
