Delta Brothers celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting June 26 at its location on East Church Street.

The Cannabidiol (CBD) and Delta specialists store has been open since early April. Delta Brothers sells Delta 8-10 products, Delta 9.0, CBD products, pet products and THC flower; CBD gummies; and drinks.

CBD is a compound found in marijuana, and is not impairing, according to the CDC’s website. CBD can be derived from hemp or from non-hemp plants. Hemp is defined as any part of the cannabis sativa plant with no more than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the mind-altering substance in marijuana. Delta-8, also known as delta-8 THC, is a psychoactive substance found in the cannabis sativa plant, of which marijuana and hemp are two varieties. Delta-8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids produced naturally by the cannabis plant but is not found in significant amounts in the cannabis plant. As a result, concentrated amounts of delta-8 THC are typically manufactured from hemp-derived CBD, according to the FDA’s website.

Delta Brothers Owner Joe Konecny, a Pensacola, Fla. native, said what brought him to open a store in Atmore was his wife, Cole, who wanted to come back to her hometown.

“She retired from teaching (of more than 20 years), and was looking for an opportunity to move back,” Konecny said. “That’s why we decided to do a store here.”

Konecny said he and his brothers, Drew and Paul, grew up in Pensacola.

“They (Drew and Paul) opened a shop in Milton (Fla.), where all of the products are made,” Konecny said. “My brothers and I make all of the products. It’s locally made. We were in CBD (line) only originally.”

Konecny said they decided to incorporate CBD and Delta products into one store.

Drew, who was present for the ribbon cutting, said CBD is more used for medicinal purposes without any psychoactive effects.

“It’s really all about what they’re using as far as how effective they want it to be,” Drew said about the difference between CBD and Delta 8. “We have from mild to wild. It’s really up to you.”

Drew said their biggest sellers are the THC Flower, and the Delta 9.0.

With the Fourth of July right around the corner, Delta Brothers will be holding a special for pet products. Konecny said the store will have 20 percent off on pet products.

Drew suggested for a night like July 4, he recommends the tincture product.

“But, it’s really whatever you can get your pet to take,” he added.

Delta Brothers’ hours is Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
