Atmore man arrested, charged with murder in May 29 shooting

An Atmore man was arrested June 29 and charged with murder after a May 29 shooting caused the death of another, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Eric Mitchell, 44, was taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in brewton.

According to Atmore Advance archives, officers responded to the area of Carver and King Streets at approximately 2:15 a.m. May 29 to a shots fired complaint. He said when officers arrived on scene, they discovered two people had been shot.

McMann said that Robert Starks, one of the individuals who had been shot, was struck by gunfire and passed away from his injuries.

McMann said APD investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Mitchell.
