A fire claimed a residence on Peachtree Street early on July 17, according to the Atmore Fire Department.

Chief Ronald Peebles said the house was a total loss, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Peebles said the lady who lived there, woke up to smoke in her house and got out.

Peebles said the AFD got the call at 4:52 a.m., and was on scene at 4:57 a.m. They cleared the scene at 7:20 a.m.

Peebles said the dwelling was a single-story house, and no one was injured as a result of the fire.

Additionally, the Red Cross was called as the homeowner lost everything, Peebles said.
