An Atmore woman was arrested July 16 on trespassing, drugs and theft charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Tayler McCurry, 29, was charged with criminal trespassing III, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of property IV, possession of marijuana II and fugitive from justice.

McMann said at approximately 4:40 p.m. on the day of the arrest, APD officers responded to a local store in reference to a possible shoplifting complaint.

“During their investigation, the officers were unable to determine if the individuals were shoplifting,” McMann said. “Upon checking the identify of one of the suspects, it was discovered that Tayler McCurry, age 29, of Atmore, had an outstanding arrest warrant with the Atmore Police Department for criminal trespass III.”

McMann added that McCurry also had an outstanding warrant for battery with the Escambia County Fla. Sheriff’s Office, who wished to extradite McCurry.

“During the shoplifting investigation, the officers were given consent to search McCurry’s vehicle,” McMann said. “The officers discovered two cigarettes containing a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana. Also discovered was a glass pipe that had a white residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine.”

McCurry was then placed under arrest and was transported to the City of Atmore Municipal Jail to be searched by a female officer. McCurry was wearing a pair of shorts under her clothing that still had the price tag attached that she confessed to allegedly stealing from the store, McMann said.

McCurry was then transported the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
