As the Coastal Alabama Community College Nursing Class of Aug. 3, 2023 recessed out of the conference center today in Atmore, smiles were seen all around.

Thirteen students were presented pins during a nursing pinning, the first of which to be held in Atmore.

Atmore Campus Director David Lanier encouraged the graduates that they can do anything if they set their minds to it.

Lanier, who was a familiar face to the class, recalled an everyday greeting he gave to the students.

“I would always say, ‘Good morning. Yesterday is gone, and you’re one day closer,’” he said. “Your reply was always, ‘Mr. Lanier, I got this.’”

The class went through a three-semester program to earn their LPN. A valedictorian, salutatorian and a spirit award were awarded during the pinning.

The salutatorian was Sarah Huff, and the valedictorian was Ametreus Marks-Hill.

Marie Grace Camonias received the Dr. Jean Graham Spirit of Nursing Sunshine award.

During the ceremony, the graduates presented roses to those who have given support throughout the program; family members presented pins; the lighting of lamps was held; and all recited the Nightingale Pledge.

The class included Camonias, Marks Hill, Huff, Tyressa Evans, Sarah Mims, Anna Grace Few, Katrina Packer, Charity N. Stevens, Emma Johnson, Takeya N. Wortham, Zhakela Law, Dezchana Wright and Jessica Mahon.
