UPDATE: According to reports, the Mobile man who was arrested Aug. 4 for the murder of an Atmore man is still in jail. In an earlier report, Antonio L. Pettaway II, of Mobile, was released on Sept. 1, according to jail records. According to reports, he’s still in the jail as of this morning.

The Mobile man who was arrested Aug. 4 for the murder of an Atmore man was released from the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton, according to jail records.

Antonio L. Pettaway II, of Mobile, was released at 9:45 this morning. His charges stem from the murder of Jatyrain A. Tolbert.

According to Atmore Advance archives, APD officers responded to Brooks Lane in reference to a traffic crash on July 25 at approximately 5 p.m.

“When the officers arrived, they discovered the driver had been shot,” APD Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said. “The victim was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.”

Pettaway turned himself into the detention center 10 days after the shooting on Brooks Lane.
