A loss for the 21st Judicial Drug Task for is a gain for the City of Flomaton.

Geoff McGraw was tapped as the police chief for the Town of Flomaton Monday by a majority vote by the mayor and council.

“I thank the Lord for this opportunity,” McGraw said. “I’m looking forward to the job and getting to know everyone there.”

McGraw, who is leaving his position as investigator with the Drug Task Force

after more than two years, will take on the duties as Flomaton’s Police Chief Monday. His resume covers a range of positions in law enforcement in addition to the Drug Task Force position

McGraw, a graduate of W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton, began his career in law enforcement with a position at the Brewton Police Department.

“I worked on patrol with Brewton Police for two years,” McGraw said. “I wa assigned to the drug task force and worked that job until the division dissolved. I went back to work with the Brewton Police Department as a investigator.”

McGraw began working as an investigator once again with the Drug Task Force in 2008.

“I was able to go back to the Drug Task Force in 2008 after Sheriff Grover Smith was able to secure funds to get the unit up and going again,” McGraw said. “I had been there until I was given the position in Flomaton this week.”

McGraw said he is looking forward to getting into the work ahead of him in Flomaton.

“I want to get to work on meeting everyone and finding out just what everybody wants and needs,” McGraw said. “I’m read to get the department moving in the right direction. I plan to work with everyone honestly and fairly. I want to do what I can to move the department forward.”

McGraw was named to the position at Monday’s meeting of the Flomaton Town

Council following the group’s interview process involving McGraw, Bennie Stokes and Tracy Owens.

The 29-year-old is married with two children and will begin work as chief of police Monday.
