Atmore man arrested for drugs, receiving stolen property

An Atmore man was arrested on drug and receiving stolen property charges Sept. 11, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jaylon North, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana II and receiving stolen property II.

McMann said the arrest came after an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Jack Springs Road in reference to an equipment violation. The traffic stop was conducted at approximately 6:50 p.m. on the day of the arrest.

“While speaking with North, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” McMann said. “North was asked to step out of the vehicle in order for the officers to conduct a probable cause search. During the search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a handgun beneath the driver’s seat that had been reported stolen. Also discovered were hydrocodone pills and approximately 2 grams of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana.”

North was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
