The Atmore City Council approved a more-than $14 million operating budget for fiscal year 2023-24 at its regular meeting Sept. 25.

The total amount approved was for $14,640,725.

Expenses for the next fiscal year include for:

• General government – $2,314,050
• Municipal court – $287,300
• Building and inspection – $386,000
• Cemetery – $188,300
• Police department – $4,291,425
• Fire department – $1,916,300
• Street and Sanitation – $2,332,700
• Park and recreation – $406,100
• Library – $311,900
• Subsidies and appropriations – $1,537,460
• Airport – $82,200
• Beautification – $298,890
• Landfill – $287,500

In other business, the council:

• approved Main Street Atmore’s third annual Witches’ Ride, which will be held Fri., Oct. 27, at 6 p.m.; and,
• approved a police truck purchase, which will be through a Drug Task Force grant for $41,717.
