Wanted man turns self in after string of burglaries, thefts

A local man turned himself in Sept. 27 to the Bay Minette Police Department on outstanding warrants with multiple agencies, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Mario Mendez, 46, turned himself in on warrants also from the APD, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (Fla.)

“Mendez has been identified by Atmore police investigators as the person responsible for several burglaries and thefts that occurred over several days the week of Sept. 11, 2023,” McMann said.

McMann said the lead investigator obtained arrest warrants for two counts of burglary III, one count of theft of property I, two counts of theft of property II, one count of theft of property III, one count of theft of property IV and one count of criminal mischief II.

At present, Mendez is in the Baldwin County Detention Center. He will eventually be extradited to Escambia County, Ala. and Escambia County, Fla.
