Atmore Police Department officials announced today that one of the individuals injured in the double stabbing that occurred on April 23 at Tractor Supply will be charged with assault.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release the lead investigator and the Escambia County District Attorney (Steve Billy) reviewed all of the evidence, discussed the video and the statements and made the determination for the assault charge. The APD will not be released the identity of the accused at this time.

McMann said at approximately 12:20 p.m. on April 23, APD officers responded to Tractor Supply on Lindberg Avenue in reference to two people who were stabbed.

“When officers arrived on the scene, one of the male subjects was laying just inside the Tractor Supply entry doors bleeding profusely,” McMann said. “Officers and employees provided first aide and applied a tourniquet to slow the blood loss. The second male subject was found seriously injured in the parking lot, also bleeding profusely and officers and other citizens provided first aide to slow the blood loss.”
McMann said then the officers encountered two male individuals in the parking lot who had a large amount of blood on their clothing, but were not injured and were detained by the officers.

“The two people who were injured were transported by ambulances to Atmore Community Hospital, and then were immediately flown to different trauma centers,” he added. “Investigators interviewed several witnesses at the scene. The two people who were detained were transported to the Atmore Police Department, where they were questioned and released.”

McMann said in a release that due to the medical conditions of the two individuals who were stabbed, investigators were not able to interview them for several days.

“Meanwhile, investigators were able to view a camera feed, which showed who was involved and their actions,” McMann said. “The statements coupled with the video footage provided a clear picture of the incident.”

McMann said APD investigators interviewed both injured parties the last couple of days who were still intensive care.

“The male subject who was found injured in the parking lot suffered a punctured lung, bruising across both eyes and cheeks, and is currently paralyzed below his waist,” McMann said. “He has had multiple surgeries and has a long road to recovery.”
McMann added that the injured party found in Tractor Supply has also had multiple surgeries and has a long road to recovery.

McMann said the individual who will be charged with assault I will be formally charged once he becomes ambulatory.
