Approval includes new principal at ECHS

The Escambia County Board of Education met last Thursday in a special called meeting to approve certain items and personnel for the end of the school year and looking forward.

During the meeting, the board approved over-night trips for the W.S. Neal High School football team to attend 7-on-7 camps. The team will be at the University of Tennessee June 5 and 6; East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss., on June 12; and Millsap College in Jackson, Miss., on June 26 and 27.

Also approved during the meeting was an out-of-state travel date for Superintendent Dr. Michele Collier to attend Powerschool Edge 2024 Conference in Seattle, Wash, July 23-26.

In other action, the board:

• Sun Flooring was awarded the bid project for removal and disposal of current flooring and delivery and installation of new flooring for the Atmore Central office, Rachel Patterson Elementary School library, Pollard-McCall Junior High School library and W.S. Neal Elementary School library in the amount of $120,587 (paid out of ESSER 3 funds);

• Approved the purchase of special education curriculum software from Teach Town in the amount of $26,264 (paid out of ESSER 3 funds); and

• Approved the purchase of Cognia Learning Community online platform for professional learning for $36,250 (paid out of ESSER 3 funds).

Personnel changes approved by the board include:

Resignations:

Kike Pettaway, mental health coordinator, effective June 30; Jeana Barrow, custodian at Flomaton High School effective June 6; Hannah Bumpers, kindergarten teacher at W.S. Neal Elementary, effective May 24; Brandalyn Jackson, pre-K program teacher at W.S. Neal Elementary, effective May 24; and Don Nathan Grantham, bus driver at Atmore bus shop, effective May 30.

Employment:

Robert Wilkerson as science teacher at Escambia County Alternative School beginning Aug. 1, replacing Alvin West; Mary Norton, special education teacher at Flomaton High School beginning Aug. 1.

Employment Change:

William Mills from transportation supervisor to transportation route specialist effect July 1; Susan Wiggins from Math Coach to Elementary Teacher at W.S. Neal Middle School, effective Aug. 1 replacing Anne Campbell; and Sarah Ziglar from PreK Teacher to Pre-school special education teacher with the office of Special Education and Student Services, effective Aug. 1 replacing Donna Watson.

Transfers:

Chrystal Purvis Allen from 7-hour lunchroom worker at Escambia County Middle School to the same position at Flomaton Elementary School; Toya McMillan, Principal at Rachel Patterson Elementary to the K-5 Alternative School; Amy Dean from Kindergarten teacher at Rachel Patterson to A.C. Moore; Cynthia Scott from kindergarten teacher at Rachel Patterson to A.C. Moore; Patricia Bradley from kindergarten teacher at Rachel Patterson to A.C. Moore; Samantha Trawick from kindergarten teacher at Rachel Patterson to A.C. Moore and Susan Anthony from kindergarten teacher at Rachel Patterson to A.C. Moore.
