Selma man arrested for theft

A Selma man was arrested June 20 on a theft charge, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Derrick Harris, 45, was charged with theft by deception I.

McMann said the arrest stems after APD officers were contacted by a local business concerning multiple orders of tires totaling several thousand dollars on June 20.

“The business owner was contacted by an out of state resident whose credit card information had been stolen,” McMann said. “The business owner advised the officer that the suspect, later identified as Derrick Harris age 45 of Selma, had just made an order and would be picking up the tires later in the afternoon.”

McMann said officers returned at approximately 1 p.m. and contacted Harris and detained him.

McMann added that an investigator interviewed Harris and charged him with theft by deception I.

“The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible as well as additional charges for Harris,” McMann said, adding that he was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
