The attorney for the Andalusia Middle School teacher accused of rape and sodomy in a case involving three student victims said his client is innocent and is caught up the fallout of a relationship between a former teacher and a former student.

Amy Caudle, 31, is charged with two counts of 2nd degree rape and three counts of second degree sodomy.

In his written statement, attorney Al Smith stated:

“Mrs. Amy Caudle has been accused and arrested by the Andalusia Police Department. She has not been convicted of anything and steadfastly maintains that she will enter a trial innocent and the truth will be found. We believe the evidence will show that Mrs. Caudle is caught up in the fallout of a former teacher who had a relationship with a former student. Mrs. Caudle felt sympathy for the parties involved, became close to a relative of the former student and financially assisted both. These charges are the result.”

Smith said he would make no further comment until the conclusion of the case.

Andalusia City Schools superintendent Ted Watson participated in a press conference about the case Friday afternoon, but could not be reached for comment when Smith released the statement.
