History talk to be held Sept. 10 on removal of the Creek Indians from Alabama and Georgia, from 1827-1849

A presentation on the Removal of the Creek Indians from Alabama and Georgia, from 1827-1849 with Dr. Christopher Haveman will be held Tues., Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.
The presentation will be held at the Elloie J. Bradshaw Training Center, located at 6541 Jack Springs Rd., Atmore.
According to a release, while most people are familiar with the Cherokee Trail of Tears, fewer know that approximately 23,000 Creek Indians were also forced from Alabama and Georgia to Indian territory, west of the Mississippi River between 1827-1849.
Haveman, an associate professor of history at the University of West Alabama, will explain how federal officials relocated the Creek people and discuss the Creeks’ experiences as they traveled over dusty roads and along frozen rivers to present-day Oklahoma, according to a release.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
